This painting is a long, narrow painting that was originally a figurative painting. Vertigo is an example of the process I use in my mixed media work:  adding and subtracting; building up layers with mediums, paint, paper, fabric, found objects; marking, scratching and sanding or digging. I use symbols and marks that are part of my visual vocabulary. I don't sketch or plan ahead, I don't usually think about what mark to make; I let the canvas tell me what it needs. Ron Pokrasso, a wonderful artist & teacher, says this about his art making:  "If I knew where I was going, I'd be lost."
